A Historic First Night: Celebrating Deaunte Damper’s 41st Birthday at Colman Commons
Welcome to Colman Commons! If you walked past our new home in historic Pioneer Square last night, you definitely caught the lingering scent of incredible catering, heard the booming laughter of a packed house, and felt the intense, welcoming energy radiating through our windows.
When you build a brand-new space intended to serve as a cultural and creative anchor, you think a lot about how to make a first impression. We wanted our launch to mean something deep, resonant, and entirely reflective of Seattle's heartbeat.
That is why we were profoundly honored that the very first event ever hosted at Colman Commons was last night's 41st birthday celebration for none other than Seattle's own community compass, Deaunte Damper.

Christening the Space with Pure Love
Uplifting Deaunte was the absolute perfect way to christen Colman Commons. Fresh off the monumental announcement that he will be serving as a Grand Marshal for the 2026 Seattle Pride Parade, the room last night was bursting at the seams with pride, gratitude, and deep community alignment.
As the phenomenal host and brilliant force behind Converge Media's We Live In Color, Deaunte represents everything we hope this venue becomes: a sanctuary for authentic storytelling, radical joy, and relentless advocacy for the community.
The room was an incredible tapestry of culture and connection:
Gallery Walls Built for an Icon: Our brand-new gallery tracks were lined with striking black-and-white framed photography and stunning painted portraits capturing Deaunte’s vibrant spirit.
Vibrant Visuals: Guests filled the space, snapping photos in front of a custom We Live In Color and Converge backdrop, surrounded by bright balloons and rooms washed in beautiful violet and magenta lighting.
A Feast Fit for the Community: The buffet line was packed with local soul, featuring beautifully seasoned fried fish, classic rice and peas, golden Caribbean-style patties, and rich jerk chicken catered by Jerk Shack Kitchen.
The "Taurus Gang" in Full Force: From tear-jerking speeches to high-fives and tight embraces, his chosen family and community allies took turns on the microphone reminding everyone exactly why Deaunte is an indispensable pillar of this city.
"This is our first event, and so we are so excited that you guys are here and that you guys are here to celebrate Deaunte..."
Hearing those words echo through our sound system for the very first time last night was an unforgettable milestone for the entire Colman Commons team. Deaunte has spent decades creating safe spaces, building bridges, and prioritizing others. To be able to hold space for his joy, and to watch him simply rest in absolute gratitude surrounded by his people, was an unmatched privilege.
Looking Ahead
To the entire Converge Media family, the friends, the loved ones, and everyone who stepped through our doors last night to dance, eat, and toast to 41 years of greatness—thank you. You didn't just attend a party; you set the spiritual and cultural blueprint for what Colman Commons will be for years to come.
If our very first night is any indication of what's to come, Pioneer Square is about to see a whole lot of color, culture, and community.
Cheers to 41, Deaunte!
